The cleaning of root canals system is indispensable for endondontics treatment success, so, the sterilization of guttapercha cones before obturation is very important for asepis. This study compared three chemical methods used easily in dentistry’s office for sterilize guttapercha cones. It was used 80 guttapercha cones, were contaminated by saliva or Enterococcus faecalis immersion. The groups were divided according to the chemical substances – G1: Sodium Hypochlorite 1%, G2: Chlorexidine 2%, G3: Polvidine, G4: Sodium Chloride 0,9%; using differents time – 1 and 10 minutes. After immesion, the guttapercha cones were dried and incubated in TSB to 37ºC during 72 hours, it being analysed the bacterial growth by cloudy. The statistic analyse demonstrared significant difference (P>0.01), where the Sodium Chloride 0,9% showed intense growth in all specimens in everytime; in Polvidine’s group the cones showed moderate growth in time of 1 minute, just when contaminated with Enterococcus faecalis, Sodium Hypochlorite 1% in 1 minute showed varied results. Sodium Hypochlorite 1% and Polvidine in 10 minutes, and Chlorxidine 2% in both times didn’t show bacterial growth. The Chlorexidine 2% in 1 minute is an efficient method for sterelization of guttapercha cones, while Polvidine and Sodium Hypochlorite 1% need 10 minutes of immersion for sterilization when exposed just of Enterococcus faecalis.
